New East Village Calgary Hotel

East Village soon-to-be 320-room hotel – which combines the brands of Hilton Garden Inn Calgary Downtown and Homewood Suites Calgary Downtown under one spectacular south-facing rooftop terrace – is quickly becoming a defining presence on the corner of 7th Ave. and 4th St. SE. And we do mean quickly.


The Hilton Garden Inn and Hilton Homewood Suites joins the National Music Centre and the New Central Library – also in full-swing construction – in making 4th St. SE a hive of vertical development. The Hilton is unique in its use of off-site modular fabrication techniques, which are shaving months off construction times.


The entire build is expected to take merely 18 months from start to finish. While a traditional building technique using cast-in-place concrete was employed on the first three floors of the 14-storey hotel, a girder-slab technique is being used to build the remaining 11 storeys. Two tower cranes will lift massive steel and concrete prefabricated floor planks – each a hefty four feet wide, eight inches thick and 20-24 feet long – into place.Innovative modular bathrooms were also fabricated off-site, which allowed them to be built while below-grade work was still happening on the Hilton site. The modular bathroom pods – each of them complete right down to the toilet, wall coverings, mirrors and light fixtures – were shipped to Calgary in shrink-wrapped cases. Installation is simply a matter of swinging the pods into place prior to the addition of the hotel’s prefab exterior panels.


It will then take plumbers and electricians about an hour apiece to finish each bathroom.The exterior of the 230,000 sq. ft. hotel will be completed in January 2016, followed by the final interior touches – furniture, fittings, equipment and detailing – that will make the Hilton Hotel feel just like home.

Better than home, actually. With amenities like a rooftop terrace with pool and fitness facilities, convention services and two levels of underground parking, your out-of-town guests may never want to crash on your hide-a-bed again.The East Village Hilton Hotel will be open in late spring 2016, just in time for cowboy hat season!
